In our fast-paced and unfriendly world today, there is a familiar tradition (practiced by an ancient group of people laughed at by most of the automotive world since '75): the Corvette wave. If you're just an asshat who wants to belittle my car in the car you just walked into a dealership and signed away a the value of 10 of my cars for (cough, almost all C7 owners, cough) instead of waving as the tradition has been for many decades, I may just do a one-fingered salute from now on. Or simply smirk, like the intended readers of this rant generally do. I'm not ashamed to be in an last year's last year's last year's news because this year's news is a year from being last year's news and not a classic. Or something. C5 owners wave very warmly, on the other hand (unintentional waving pun).

Try being a BMW owner. Other BMW drivers just get angry at me.

Maybe they didn't see you? I noticed when I had a motorcycle a lot of times others were too busy looking down the road.

Yeah, there have been several unsure cases but many with confirmed visual contact. Disturbing results indeed... (Can I become a news anchor and do a report about this?)

"What the fuck kind of parking is that? One space? And nice turning signals, douche." Is what they are thinking. You're welcome.

But it's just that with the C7 being somewhat stylish the base has been diluted. (This comment will piss anyone who likes new M cars or Porsches off.)

I haven't passed a C7 drivers, but I've never ever passed another C4 without getting a wave. I also have had better luck with C6 drivers more than C5. It's always fun waving to someone who I'll never meet, just acknowledging we have awesome cars.

I always wave at any Vette or anyone who gives a wave. My C3 has been a little busy since the C7 is on the road tho so have not experienced this... But we'll wave again someday!

Living in a wealthy metro area and with the C7 being relatively stylish, there are a lot of your typical buyers of any expensive and fast car driving them. I've been behind a C4 or two, but I never had the wave opportunity. I was once being passed by a C6 driver on the highway who both honked and waved through the open top but I've waved at a few more C5 drivers.

That is gorgeous! I've been driving my car but it needs a little bit of everything. Having an '85 means less expense at the sacrifice of fewer waves, but gives a lot of opportunity for arguments online. As you can see, I lead a life of danger and adventure.

I can definitely picture that. The XJ is the C4 of jeeps, it's just at an awkward stage between classic and "old", capable and outdated. Just wait a while and you will have the last laugh.

Decent analogy. We're just as capable once some money has been spent, and in the long run we're more practical. At least we were invited to do the wave. I doubt the Comp(ass), Patriot, or fauxCherokee owners even know about it.

Personally, I think the C4 is one of the better looking and more interesting Corvettes.

Had one give me the cold shoulder today right after a C7 did as well, but there are some cool ones that have gone out of their way to wave and the douchey ones have mostly moved on to C7s or Ze Germans.

I love XJs. They are so functional and capable, but I'm guessing the stereotype among the owners of more collectible jeeps is much like that of the C4's. They can do some insane stuff and are pretty much classics IMO. Also,

I'm just joking, although I'd say that generally the people buying the new auto cabriolets are looking for more of a fancy leisure car much like the sedan/SUV buyers. I also met my first macan driver today, who didn't give a solitary crap about cars whatsoever. Porsche fans are usually really cool in my experience, and pretentiousness is rare.

Yeah, the '84s really started the stereotype because of crossfire injection and stiff suspension, but they don't deserve the bad reputation either. I have an '85 which basically only had softer springing and a new engine, and it's a lot of fun. The C3 looks fantastic in your body style, and it's really only the aerodynamic body style changes that people dislike. '68 was problematic and regulations choked later cars and changed the beautiful design, but they are fantastic classic cars. To think they nearly put an even more powerful 454 than the LS6 in them is mind blowing.

The C6 will replace the C5, the C4 will replace the C3 with only '84s replacing later versions and I will be rich. The prophecy shall be fulfilled! *gets offer of $6,500 and sells*

Your post kind of reminds of a camaro5 thread where the OP got rid of his Camaro for a C6 'Vette and everyone was making fun of him, in part because he made a big deal out of how Camaro owners didn't wave.

I don't mean to offend - after all, he had an example of a very common car while you're facing newness snobbery, and I'd love to have a 'Vette that I could drive every day. I just found it amusing, is all.

And the C4 and C3 will only appreciate. That C7 driver that didn't wave is riding a serious depreciation curve!

The C3 was made for so long that people do think of the later cars usually. Mine is a '71 base model with the L48, it's a numbers-matching car but I am struggling with keeping it stock.

It's not easy keeping a project like that stock, but good luck! Your car is really going to ride the appreciation car until there is no one left to care about cars since anyone in their right mind likes a chrome bumper C3 vert. Funny that the promotional video for the '84 corvette in '83 called it a "sound investment"

I wave every chance I get, and often other gen Vettes will initiate the wave (yes, even here in L.A.) The times when I don't get a wave back it seems that the other drivers didn't see me. Though, to be honest, there's been a few times when I noticed a wave too late and I 'll wave my arm out hoping they'll see my acknowledgment in their mirrors.

Keep the wave alive!
